Nutrition News! #recipes

Nutrition news!!

well...I'm about a week behind but, my niece did such a great job on this post I wanted to publish it!

Today [last week] is known as "Johnny Appleseed Day"! Way back in the 1770's Johnny was known for planting apple trees throughout Ohio, Pennsylvanian, Indiana and Illinois, he was very kind and today is known as an American Figure for his leadership. He was also a missionary, There is many museums and Historical places dedicated to Johnny "Appleseed" Chapmen.

In honor of Johnny "Appleseed" here are a few yummy recipes from apples!

Remember:
Johnny Appleseed walked almost everywhere he went. He preferred to walk and carry his apple seeds with him. Some say he once walked 15 miles through rain and snow. So a little walking/jogging every now and then wont hurt!

A lil' History About NNM
www.NationalNutritionMonth.org
When did the National Nutrition Month begin?
Actually, it started out as just a 'National Nutrition Week' back in 1973. But it grew more into National Nutrition Month in 1890 out of people giving more interest over the years. Taking advantage of National Nutrition Month, many people began to introduce campaigns for nutritional information and public relations. By 1990's National Nutrition Month was out on the internet for everyone to see! In 33 years the National Nutrition Month campaign has been by-far a continuing success because of The Academy's members and other healthcare professionals who continue to plan and create events, big or small, for anyone who is interested in having a healthier life.

Why is important?
National Nutrition Month is mainly targeted for kids, teens and young adults to encourage them to make healthier food choices and increase physical activity habits.

13% to 25%-30% of children are estimated
over-weight and percentage is still growing since the '70's.

That can make a child a easy risk for health problems and self-esteem in their future. Over one million boys and girls have eating disorders, that means early eating habits are important for children heath risk.
No Matter What
You Are Made The Way You Are
For A Reason!
Make Better choices in your life and be the best you that you can be. Only you can do it. Get Active, Play outside, Run around! Do something and don't be just a couch potato! Take A Bite Into A Better And Healthier Life, You Won't Regret It.

Tips for a healthier you this year!

Happy New Year! Here is a quick top ten tips list to get you started this year.

1. Eat less, Move more.
2. Stop starving yourself, please.
3. Diets don't work. It's all about a lifestyle transition. Are you ready??
4. Find the nutrition in your food! Ask yourself, "where's my veggies, fruits, low-fat dairy, whole grains?"
5. Limit trans fat (AkA hydrogenated oils--look at the ingredients list)
6. Eat whole grains!
7. If edible eat clean, raw produce. Cooking breaks down some essential nutrients.
8. Drink water, water, water!! Put down the sodas!!!
9. Step away from the salt shaker! Look to herbs and spices without added salt to flavor foods. Use this reference sheet for guidance.
10. Lastly, start your day with a moment of silence and meditation. Pray and allow God to hear your health goals so the He may guide you this year.

Can you choose just ONE of the above and set a realistic goal for 2015?
