Kids Eat Right Month PR
From The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
August is ‘Kids Eat Right’ Month
With childhood obesity on the rise, making sure kids eat right and get plenty of exercise is vital. Parents and caregivers can play a big role in children’s nutrition and health, teaching kids about healthy foods, being a good role model and making sure physical activity is incorporated into each day.
August, which is Kids Eat Right Month, is a great time for families to focus on the importance of healthful eating and active lifestyles. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is encouraging families to take the following steps: Shop Smart. To encourage a healthy lifestyle, get your children involved in selecting the food that will appear at the breakfast, lunch or dinner table. Cook Healthy. Involve your child in the cutting, mixing and preparation of meals. They will learn about food and may even be enticed to try new foods they helped prepare. Eat Right. Sit down together as a family to enjoy a wonderful meal and the opportunity to share the day’s experiences with one another. Research indicates that those families who eat together have a stronger bond, and children have higher self-confidence and perform better in school. Healthy Habits. You can help kids form great, healthy habits by setting a good example. Fill half your plate with fruits and vegetables, choose lower-sodium options, and make at least half the grains your family eats whole grains. For beverages, choose water over sugary drinks, and opt for fat-free or low-fat milk.
Get Moving. Aside from being a great way to spend time together, regular physical activity is vital to strengthen muscle and bones, promote a healthy body weight, support learning, develop social skills and build self-esteem. Kids are encouraged to be active for 60 minutes per day. Getting kids to eat right can sometimes be a challenge, particularly if they are picky eaters. But experts say that a conversation can help. “Talk to your children. Learn the foods they like. Teach them about the foods they need for their growing bodies. Find ways together to make sure they have the knowledge and ability to eat healthy and tasty foods at every meal,” says Angela Lemond, registered dietitian nutritionist and Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics spokesperson. It may help to consult a registered dietitian nutritionist in your area to ensure your family is getting the nutrients it needs with a meal plan tailored to your lifestyle and busy schedule. For more healthful eating tips, recipes, videos and to learn more about Kids Eat Right Month, visit www.KidsEatRight.org. This August, reevaluate your family’s eating and exercise habits, and take steps to make positive, healthful changes.

EC LifePlanner 2015/2016
Hello friends. How was your Monday? I had a great start to the day with my usual morning regimen: nestled under a blanket with my coffee and my thoughts.
My weeks are starting to mold a fixed fashion as I settle in a new job-more on
that later. I am pretty pumped about
today's post because it involves one of my favorite things: planners!
The
husband doesn't get the obsession (yes, it's a problem). For as long as I can remember I have kept a planner. Though I would use
it for a little more than just planning: documenting fun times, stressful times,
etc. It really served as somewhat of a scrapbook. Every once in a while I'll pull an old one out and read through it. Now that the world (or awesome designers) has caught up with me, more and
more planners are allowing users to tap into an extra creative side giving us the opportunity to utilize planners for more than just planning...
You are thinking I'm silly, aren't you? Hang in there with me!
Planners/Organizers are recognizing the "big picture" in our lives; reminding us that we have a purpose and it's not just to get through today (I know, sometimes that is a goal). Take
the Day Designer for instance. This daily planner
is centered around the users’ goals and gratitude’s. On the daily sheet, one section provides a
daily schedule, another for top priorities, and a section for daily
gratitude. I have a sheet I developed similar to this layout- I'll link it at the end. The designer offers a free download too.

has an ENDLESS amount of gorgeous accessories. If you have never visited her
site, consider that your warning!
No matter your needs and likings there is a planner for you. I am a BIG fan of color and clichés. I have been using the Erin Condren Life Planner for two years. I have tried to break away and use others but it's never the same. Tomorrow she launches the 2015/16 Life Planner. This version has several changes. This is yet another reason I love her, because she listens to her users! See the new changes below:

After discovering Kikki-K I ordered a large planner that was 50% off! I uncoiled my EC LifePlanner and placed it in the Kikki-K. This is another site that's full of beautiful stationary and accessories. I have this pink binder in the video.
What do you think? If you are interested in purchasing one click the banner below to show me some love (and to fund my planer addiction). Now, let's go make a memorable Monday!!

Enjoy!

Remember:
Johnny Appleseed walked almost everywhere he went. He preferred to walk and carry his apple seeds with him. Some say he once walked 15 miles through rain and snow. So a little walking/jogging every now and then wont hurt!

Show Beans some Love Today
Happy National Bean Day
Beans are often overlooked as a healthy choice. Did you know that beans are a good source of protein, fiber, and folate? They are also cheap and can be added to many meals and snacks. Some of my favorite beans are garbanzo beans, soy beans, and black beans! All of which can be added to a simple salad to increase it's nutrient power.

Health Nut Holiday Gift Guide Fitness Focus
1. Muscle Roller
This muscle roller can be completely customized. The independent disks allow you to remove or add as needed to get a better reach.
2. Ear Warmers
Everyone needs ear warmers this time of year! Two reasons I love these: 1, ear bud ready and 2, it lays on the neck.
3. Sports and Fitness Headbands
I have tried and tried to wear elastic headbands but, they always slip off of my head. These sparkly bands are special because they carry the anti-slip material all the way around opposed to the single elastic band in the back.
4. Dumbbells
Dumbbells are essential to anyone trying to get fit or maintaining fitness. Resistance builds muscle creating a leaner body while enhancing the metabolism. Lighter weights can be used in a variety of ways: To intensify workouts use light weights while walking, lunging, squatting, or try Small, isolated movements for toned arms.
5. Tory Burch Fit Bit Bracelet
What? Shut up! Fit Bit has exploded in popularity this year bringing on top names like Tory Burch. Why not, right? But, get ready to drop a few dollars. It's Tory Burch, what do you expect?
Whats on your list this year?? Don't forget to check out last years gift guide for more ideas for the health nut in your life.
