Meet your ALWB Foodie Friday Contributor!

I am excited to announce that I am the new Alabama Women Bloggers (ALWB) Foodie Friday Contributor. Wow, that's a mouth full. This post is designed to let the ALWB community get to know their new team members. To learn about the others head over to ALWB! Now, without further adieu, a bit about Cindy!

1. Name & Birthday
Cindy Huggins, RDN, LD
Christmas Eve Baby
December 24, 1984

2. How long have you been blogging?
I have been blogging since 2010. Before I got married, I knew I wanted to start this blog to document our struggles and achievements of learning to be healthy as a married couple. Hence, "Newlywed Nutrition." It has evolved to so much more. Which takes me to number 3!!

3. What is your favorite part of being a blogger and why?
My favorite part of being a blogger is the community. I always knew I would have a few faithful followers (maybe my mom...), but I never thought about the opportunity for networking with other bloggers. I have met so many wonderful bloggers, who I now call friends. The world of blogging is huge and without their support and guidance this world would chew me up and spit me out!

4. Why did you start blogging?
As I stated earlier, I wanted to start this blog to share my experience as a dietitian and a newlywed. Two different people, with two very different eating habits! In a nut shell, my goal is to share advice on how the home can be balanced nutritionally with husband-approved foods!

5. Tell us a little about your Family.
My family is hands down the best family one could ask for. First, my immediate family consists of my husband, Brian. Brian I and met in jr. high during band class. We both were in the percussion section. He is a very talented drummer. Me? I can play the heck out of a triangle! I still remember the first day I saw Brian. It was before school started and all the kids would have to gather in the gym before the bell rang. As I was sitting with my classmates I noticed a boy walking in with the principal. He was a cute! He was wearing a polo shirt with sailboats. We had a love/hate relationship throughout jr. high and high school. Then the summer after high school graduation we feel in love and have been together ever since. We share a big love for cats! We have two, (left to right) Zoey and Amino Acid. They are our babies.

Because I have such an awesome family I need to tell you a little more about my siblings. I am the baby of 8! Yep, I have 5 sisters-Denise, Tess, Christine, Kim, and Jaime. And two brothers-Sam and Ty. Between all of them there is 11 nieces and nephews (2 more on the way!) and 4 great nieces and nephews. We are so blessed!!

6. Where are you from?
What a blessing it is to call Tuscaloosa, Alabama my home-Roll Tide!! If you are familiar with Tuscaloosa you may know where Coker, Alabama is located. This is actual were I grew up. And yes, with all of those siblings.

7. What is your greatest achievement?
This is a very hard question to answer. The Lord has giving me strength to achieve so much in my life. Because I never saw if coming, I am going to have to say graduating college with honors.

Honestly, I never thought I would be where I am today-married with an awesome career. Growing up I wanted to be a famous actress. After high school I was bound and determined to move to Los Angeles to make it big, but He had bigger plans for me. Don't get me wrong, I still want to be famous. It just may be in a different way.

8. If you could live anywhere where would it be and why?
Stop with the hard questions already!! I cannot tell you a specific place, but I can give you a description. If I could live anywhere it would be a place where I could be hiking through the mountains one day and then laying on snow white beaches the next. If their were mountains on the Gulf Coast, that would be my paradise.

9. Favorite Movie?
Ok, this is easy! Because it is more fun, I'll give you top 3!

3. Alice in Wonderland

2. Now and Then

1. Beetlejuice

I had a strange obsession with scary movies as a child.....And kinda still to!

10. Favorite Music/Song?

Oh, how I use to be a music snob! Now, I embrace everything. Anyone who knows me really well, will first tell you that Britney Spears is my hero. In my book, the girl can do no wrong. The first time I saw "baby one more time" I was in the 7th grade watching MTV while painting my face with makeup. Perhaps, this was my first girl crush. I don't care if she lip sings and I don't care if she shaves her head. The girl is an entertainer. Plus, her music makes me run faster, because mentally I'm pretending I'm a backup dancer in one of her videos. Ok, off the Britney soap box.

My favorite all time band is Taking Back Sunday. If you have never heard of them, please, let me know and I will personally buy you "tell all of your friends" and send it to you.

11. What are your hobbies?
Food
Cooking
Baking
Acting
On and Off Stage! I absolutely love the theatre. I actually started college as a performing arts major. This was my last show in 2012, "Regrets Only."

I went to LA for minute and wanted to stay and pursue commercial acting, but the Lord brought me back home. These are some of my professional head shots.

Can Pinterest be a hobby???

12. What inspires you?
My family, friends, patients, cats, Christians, and YOU! I see inspiration everywhere in everyone and everything. However, it is my God fearing Mother that inspires me the most.

She is beautiful, brave, courageous, strong, stubborn, loving, independent, honest, and intelligent.

She is everything I wish to be.
13. Favorite Color? Pink!!
14. What is your dream job?
I do not have just one dream job, I have several. All I want to do is have a servants heart and let the Lord guide me. My current profession, as a dietitian, allows me to help the sick, the obese, the malnourished, and the hopeless. My dream job would allow me to share my knowledge of food and nutrition to help others achieve optimal health.

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
1 Corinthians 10:31

15. What are you looking forward to most in 2014
Right now, I'm am excited about what the Lord is doing in my life. The opportunities are endless and I know it is all because of His unconditional love.

Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Psalm 37:4

I'm looking forward to growing spiritually, making memories everyday with my family and friends, continuing my journey as a graduate student, expanding my brand and blog, starting a book, running more half marathons, and....turning 30! God is Good!
Foodie Friday is going to be so much fun. Please, let me know if you have any recipes or foodie experiences you would like me to feature on Foodie Friday!

  5. Ah! Another Britney fan! Yes! haha I also had a strange love for scary movies all the way through college, but living on my own encouraged me to stop watching as many. I just started running about 6 months ago (after having my baby) and I'm falling in love with it. I've only done a couple of 5ks, but I'd love to be able to run a half one day. I loved learning more about you! You are doing a great job with Foodie Friday! :)

    xoxo
