Road Trip

A quick little post before it clears my thoughts. Yesterday, B and I traveled to Mobile, Al to look for possible homes. After a snack stop I noticed two things 1. B had bought trail mix and 2. He was reading the food label! I begged him to let me take a picture but he said no! Then, I asked him to explain the label. He proceeded to tell me how many calories in a serving (~200) and how many calories in the whole bag (~1000) and he also pointed out that there were no hidden trans fat!! Hydrogenated oils or as my young client's like to call it "the 'H' word." You can find this fancy word in the ingredients list. If it's there this means trans fat are present, even though the front cover says "no trans fat." By law, manufactures are allowed to add up to 0.5 grams of trans fat/serving of food and still label it as a "no trans fat" food. So, if you eat one serving you have just ate 1/2 gram of trans fat. And if you eat 3 servings then you have ingested almost 1.5 grams of trans fat. See where I'm going here? You have to read those food labels.
Continuing with the story...
I smiled to myself and asked him what did he learn and he said "that I'm probably going to eat three serving." This is his wonderful sense of humor. Point being, that men really do listen when they want to!

With this story comes many more dealing with food compromise. Please continue to read NewlyWed Nutrition as I contiue My Mission: Healthy Huggins!

Now, go read food labels and learn about what you are eating!
